Peter Ingram on Porch

Berea College basketmaker, and all around great woodworker, Peter Ingram making baskets on the porch of Rustic Cottage, ca. 1920.

It's Gone

Rustic Cottage was torn down on August 7, 2008. Berea lost an inspirational icon.

What Can I do?

1) SPREAD THE WORD!!!!!
2) Tie ribbons on the porch. Any color, any kind, lots of ribbons!
3) Write to _____ ___________, VP for Business, Berea College, 40404. Tell him what RC means to you. Send him your ideas. Paper is better than email. It won't hurt to also send copies to the college President, other VPs, and the Dean.
4) Send tangible ideas about saving, moving, reusing RC and how it might be funded. A good idea for adaptive reuse, but don't suggest that it be turned into a museum. This suggestion is counterproductive. Trust me!
5) Send gifts or pledges of money to the College that are restricted to preservation or reuse of Rustic Cottage.
7) If the day finally comes that it is to be torn down, show up and don't budge 'till they carry you off.

[The VP's name was removed as it is no longer relevant and to protect that person's privacy 6/2013]

200 Ribbons for RC

Thank you if you have tied a ribbon on the porch of Rustic Cottage. This display of ribbons will demonstrate the support in the Berea community for saving RC. We need more. Let us strive to cover the porch of RC with 200 or more ribbons. Any color, any size, any kind will do; the more colors the better.
